W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, R-Palmdale, introduced legislation to celebrate California's contributions to aerospace in the 100th anniversary of the Wright Brothers' first flight. Knight, a former record-setting X-15 rocket test pilot, introduced Senate Bill 1536 to create the California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W). The commission would work with the aerospace industry and related organizations to develop a series of celebrations leading up to the 100th anniversary of the first flight on Dec. 17, 2003. ``The aviation industry has played a large role in California's history. This industry has changed transportation, business, communication and science,'' Knight said. ``It's important we recognize and celebrate the achievements we've made in the last 100 years and to look forward to those to come.'' The commission would consist of seven members appointed by the governor. Congress has created a similar commission to plan national celebrations of the Wright Brothers' flight.
