STATE FARM MUTUAL AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE COMPANY OPENS ITS NORTH ATLANTIC
 REGIONAL OFFICE
MALTA, N.Y., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- With a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Chief Executive Officer Edward B. Rust Jr., New York Gov. Mario M. Cuomo, and various other state and local officials, State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company officially recognized the opening of its North Atlantic Regional Office here today.
Jim Ryman, State Farm's regional vice president in charge of the new office's operation, presided over the event, attended by agents and employees from seven states -- the area for which the office will be the headquarters.
"This location offers us the opportunity to move as close as possible to our customers, agents and claim offices," he said. Business operations for these states were previously handled out of the company's Wayne, N.J., office. "We're looking forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with people in the Saratoga County area," he added.
The facility, located at the intersection of Routes 87 and 67, is the company's 28th regional office. Auto, life, fire and health insurance business for State Farm's 1.5 million customers in Upstate New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut is handled at the office. It provides support for 340 agents and 677 field claim employees located throughout the seven-state area.
Currently, 677 people work in the regional office. Of those, 306 were hired from the Saratoga County area and 209 transferred from the Wayne, N.J., office. The remaining employees moved to the Malta office from State Farm offices in 18 different states.
Construction of the 325,000-square-foot building began in May 1990 and was completed in September 1991.
Joining Ryman, Rust and Cuomo for the ceremony were State Farm Deputy Regional Vice Presidents Paul Raber and Frank Mosier; New York Superintendent of Insurance Salvatore Curiale and his Executive Assistant Mary Griffin; Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives Richard Balducci; and Malta Town Board Supervisor David Meager.
