 STATE FARM INSURANCE TO PURCHASE PROPERTY
 IN DUPONT, WASH., FOR NEW REGIONAL OFFICE
 SALEM, Ore., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- State Farm Insurance Companies today announced agreement on an option to purchase 51 acres of land along Interstate 5 in DuPont, Wash. The firm plans to build an additional regional office to support its growth in the Northwest.
 State Farm's current regional office in Salem serves customers in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska.
 State Farm's growth in the Northwest has been tremendous, and we're confident that trend will continue," said Gary Methner, State Farm regional vice president. "We will reach a point where an additional regional office will be needed to continue to provide quality service to our growing number of customers."
 According to Methner, no decision has been made as to what geographic territory the new office will handle.
 State Farm has 28 regional offices across the United States and Canada, including the one in Oregon. The typical new State Farm office is a multi-story building of at least 350,000 square feet, employing 600 to 700 people. The company transfers several hundred experienced employees from other locations and hires about 250 people locally.
 The property, part of the 3,000-acre Northwest Landing planned community by Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, is midway between Tacoma and Olympia, about 45 miles south of downtown Seattle. The development will include homes, shops, businesses and industry.
 State Farm's corporate headquarters are in Bloomington, Ill. The company has nearly 58,000 employees and 18,500 agents and agency managers, serving more than 59 million policies across the United States and Canada. The five-state area currently served by the Salem regional office has 2,160 employees and 813 agents and agency managers.
