The Honourable James Glennister "Jim" Cox (born 1 October 1945) is a Tasmanian Labor politician and member of the Tasmanian House of Assembly in the electorate of Bass.
 for the Republican nomination for the 34th Assembly District.

The heavily Republican district runs from Rosamond to Bishop and is now represented by Assemblyman Keith Olberg, R-Victorville, who is retiring because of term limits.

The primary winner will face Democrat Robert Conaway, who ran unopposed, in November.

Norrdin, a teacher from Ventura.

Waiting in the wings for November are Republican Robin Sullivan, 50, an escrow lawyer and city councilwoman from Santa Paula; and Eric L. Dahl, 51, a Natural Law Party member from Goleta.

Runner in cakewalk to renomination

Assemblyman George Runner George C. Runner, Jr. (born March 25 1952 in Scotia, New York) is a Republican California State Senator, who represents the 17th Senate District, which includes portions of Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County.  faced no opposition Tuesday for the Republican nomination toward a third term representing the 36th Assembly District. In November, the Lancaster Republican will face Democrat Paula Calderon and Libertarian Gregory Bashem, who also were unopposed.

McGrath has upper hand in 37th

Democrat Roz McGrath held a decisive lead over Jon Sharkey in Tuesday's Democratic primary contest for the chance to challenge Republican Tony Strickland in November for the 37th District seat.

Strickland, who is running for a second two-year term, had no GOP opponent. Libertarian Willard Michlin also was unopposed in Tuesday's primary.

<Richman in control in 38th contest

Keith S. Richman defeated Ross Hopkins and Norm Walker on Tuesday for the Republican nomination in the 38th Assembly District's primary.

The winner for the GOP nomination will carry the party banner in November in an attempt to succeed fellow Republican Assemblyman Tom McClintock Thomas Miller "Tom" McClintock (born July 10, 1956 in White Plains, New York) is a California State Senator. He ran for Governor of California in the 2003 California recall election of Gray Davis and finished third out of 135 candidates with 13.5% of the overall vote. , who is forced out by term limits.

Democrat Jon M. Lauritzen and Libertarian Philip Baron were also in the open primary, running unopposed.

No primary opposition for Cardenas

Hammans edging deLeuw in 40th

In a case of political revenge, Kyle Hammans took the lead over fellow Republican Eunice L. deLeuw based on early returns Tuesday in the GOP contest in the central San Fernando Valley's 40th Assembly District.

The winner of the Republican matchup will face the district's incumbent, Assembly Speaker-Elect Bob Hertzberg, in the November general election. Hertzberg had no Democratic opposition Tuesday.

Libertarian Kelley Ross, who has run for the seat since 1994, was unopposed in the primary.

Freeman, Shapiro in front in 41st

Republican Jayne Murphy Shapiro, the founder of child safety organization Kids Safe, was leading by a wide margin over Santa Monica teacher Stefan ``Stu'' Stitch.

Five Democrats, two Republicans and a Libertarian were competing for the seat that Assemblywoman Sheila Kuehl, D-Encino, was forced to give up because of term limits.

Koretz, Susskind neck and neck

West Hollywood City Councilman Paul Koretz battled Los Angeles lawyer Amanda F. Susskind for the lead Tuesday in the 42nd Assembly District primary.

Trailing Koretz and Susskind was a third Democrat, Daniel J. Stone.

The winner will be on the ballot in the November general election against Republican Douglas Cleon Taylor and three third-party candidates - all four of whom were unopposed in their own parties in Tuesday's voting.

The competition was intense in the heavily Democratic district because the Assembly seat is vacant as a result of the state's term limits law. Incumbent Wally Knox has represented the district since 1994.

Krekorian, Missakian pacing fields

Paul Krekorian took an early lead among Democrats, while Craig Missakian was pulling ahead in the GOP race Tuesday in the 43rd Assembly District that includes Glendale, Burbank and parts of the east San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Gray Davis; and John Hisserich of Silver Lake, an associate vice president at the University of Southern California The U.S. News & World Report ranked USC 27th among all universities in the United States in its 2008 ranking of "America's Best Colleges", also designating it as one of the "most selective universities" for admitting 8,634 of the almost 34,000 who applied for freshman admission .

In the battle for the Republican nomination, the field was made up of Missakian, a Glendale lawyer; Mark MacCarley, a Glendale lawyer; and Liz Michael, a Glendale computer manufacturer and tax accountant.

Each party's winner will be on the ballot in the November general election for the open seat. Assemblyman Scott Wildman, D-Glendale, who has represented the district since 1996, opted to run for the state Senate this year.

Liu, Carpenter-McMillan leading early

In returns for the 44th Assembly District, Carol Liu jumped ahead in the Democratic race, while Republican Susan Carpenter-McMillan took the lead among GOP hopefuls.

A crowded field competed for the open seat that incumbent Jack Scott, D-Pasadena, gave up to run for state Senate.

Republicans in the race were Carpenter-McMillan, former spokeswoman for Paula C. Jones, who sued President Clinton for sexual harassment sexual harassment, in law, verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, aimed at a particular person or group of people, especially in the workplace or in academic or other institutional settings, that is actionable, as in tort or under equal-opportunity statutes. ; Damian Aaron Jones, a public affairs director for Fannie Mae Fannie Mae: see Federal National Mortgage Association. ; and Robert Wagner, a property manager and former South Pasadena councilman.

The Democratic field was made up of Barry Gordon, a former president of the Screen Actors Guild and a two-time candidate for Congress; Liu, mayor of La Canada Flintridge; and Diana Peterson-More, a management consultant and lawyer.

Libertarian Jerry Douglas, a software engineer, also entered the contest.
