Business leaders say changing area codes will cost local businesses and residents, but they are resigned to it. ``It's inevitable. It's part of progress,'' said Howard Brooks, executive director of Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming. The Antelope Valley Board of Trade. ``It's a necessary evil.'' The 805 area was once part of the 213 area code, which was one of three original codes in California when the system was introduced in 1947. The 213 area code was split in 1957, and the new area was designated 805. The new code will be the 24th in the state and is expected to last about 15 years before it runs out of numbers, DeVine said. The area code dilemma has cropped up all across America in recent years, due to the explosion in the number of faxes, cellular phones, pagers and other devices that require phone numbers. The area code split got a tentative go-ahead in August from the California-Nevada Code Administration, but approval was also needed by the California Public Utilities Commission. Under the plan, the eastern area would receive a new code, California's 24th, on Feb. 13, 1999. Calls dialed with the 805 area code, however, would go through for six months following that date to ease into the change. The price of calls would remain the same, CNCA CNCA Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes CNCA Centre for Neural Computing Applications CNCA China National Coal Association CNCA Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (Los Angeles, CA) CNCA Council for National Cooperation in Aquatics officials said. The new area code, which has not been established, would be selected by a national agency called Bellcore. After receiving the information, the CNCA decided to recommend a plan that would split the area code into east and west regions rather than north and south regions. It was recommended that the western portion keep the 805 area code because projections show it will need another area code in about nine or 10 years, much sooner than the eastern region, which will need a new one in about 14 to 17 years.
