STARS' WIN NO HIGHLIGHT FOR BRUST KINGS GOALIE GIVES UP ONLY GOAL IN SO DALLAS 4, KINGS 3 (SO).

When Kings rookie goaltender Barry Brust watched a few highlight videos in effort to get a quick education on the Dallas Stars, he hoped he wouldn't find himself in any of the Stars' future highlight reels.

But Brust just might find himself there after Saturday.

Dallas' Mike Ribeiro beat Brust to score the only goal during a shootout that give the Stars a 4-3 victory over the Kings in front of 15,846 at Staples Center.

The Kings had rallied from a 2-0, first-period deficit to lead 3-2 in the third before Dallas' Brenden Morrow scored with 4:58 remaining in regulation to send the contest to overtime.

Brust, who earned his first NHL win Thursday at San Jose after being thrust into the starting role due to injuries to the Kings' top two goalies, blocked 28 shots against a Stars team that improved to 5-0 against the Kings this season.

``I thought we were great in the second and third periods, and they wanted him in the shootout,'' Kings coach Marc Crawford said.

Brust opened the shootout by blocking Sergei Zubov's shot. Dallas' next shooter, Jussi Jokinen, hit off the left post. Then Ribeiro eluded Brust, and Stars goaltender Marty Turco clinched the win by denying Alexander Flolov on the Kings' final attempt.

Turco made 33 saves in regulation, including 16 in the second period after the Kings had managed just six shots in the opening period.

``There is a little concern about the first 20 minutes, where they really took it to us,'' Kings defenseman Mattias Norstrom said. ``But I'm impressed with how we responded in the second and third. We really turned the tables on them, outshot them and took over the play.''

Dustin Brown brought the Kings within one on a power- play score early in the second period. Sean Avery's sixth goal of the season, on an assist by Brian Willsie, tied the score 2:57 into the third period.

Rob Blake untied it at 12:18, but the Kings' lone lead lasted less than three minutes.

The comeback was enough to keep the Kings encouraged during uncertain times.

``I'm really pleased with how the guys have stuck together and how they've built on what they can control,'' Crawford said. ``You can't control injuries and stuff like that. You can control how hard you play, you control the focus of your play. The focus of our play has been defensively to not give up second chances.''

The Kings are unsure who their goaltender will be when they next play Tuesday.

Dan Cloutier, who was injured when he was hit by a shot in warmups Thursday, could possibly return by then, according to Crawford, who is pleased with his team's improved defensive focus since the regular goalies were injured. Mathieu Garon, out with a groin injury, is less likely to be available.
