STARBUCKS REPORTS SALES FOR APRIL

 SEATTLE, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ-NMS: SBUX) today reported sales of $11.9 million for the four weeks ended April 25, an increase of 70 percent from $7.0 million in the same four-week period of fiscal 1992. On a comparable-store-sales basis (stores open for at least one year), sales increased 22 percent.
 For the 30 weeks ended April 25, total sales were $84.4 million, an increase of 69 percent from the year-earlier 30-week period of $49.8 million. Comparable store sales during this 30-week period increased 23 percent.
 The company ended its 1992 fiscal year on Sept. 27, 1992, with 154 stores including three licensed airport stores. Since that time 48 stores, including four licensed airport stores, have been opened; 17 stores in the first quarter, 25 in the second, and six stores in April, bringing to 202 the total number of locations in the metropolitan areas surrounding Seattle; Chicago; Vancouver, British Columbia; Portland, Ore.; Denver; Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco; and Washington, D.C. In addition the company has a national direct mail business with customers in every state as well as a specialty sales division serving a wholesale club, fine restaurants and institutions. The company plans to open at least 42 additional locations for a total of 90 new stores including five airport stores in fiscal 1993.
