STARBUCKS COFFEE CO. ENTERS FIRST EAST COAST MARKET THIS MORNING IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

SEATTLE, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Co. (NASDAQ-NMS: SBUX), the nation's leading specialty coffee roaster/retailer, enters their premiere East Coast market at 6:30 a.m. EST today, the company announced. The first D.C.-area Starbucks retail store will be located at 3430 Wisconsin Ave. in Upper Northwest Washington, and is one of 10 Starbucks stores slated to open in the Washington corridor before the end of the calendar year.
Starbucks' D.C. entry establishes Starbucks Coffee Co. as a truly national retailer and brand, marking another passage for the company toward the long-term goal of bringing Starbucks coffee to every major city in North America.
"The sophisticated taste of Washington customers, coupled with the steady growth of Starbucks' direct mail business in the D.C. area, compelled us to select Washington as our first East Coast city," stated Starbucks Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Howard Schultz. "It is with great excitement and tremendous anticipation that we introduce the unparalleled quality of our product and service directly to Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas of Maryland and Virginia."
Starbucks Coffee Co. operates 190 stores in the metropolitan areas surrounding Seattle; Chicago; Vancouver, British Columbia; Portland, Ore.; Denver; and Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, Calif. Starbucks operates a specialty sales division, and the company's national direct mail business serves customers in every state.
