STAR TECHNOLOGIES' GRAPHICON 2000/STX CHOSEN FOR
                 ARMY HELICOPTER SIMULATOR PROGRAM
STERLING, Va., March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Star Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: STRR) today announced a contract to supply its Host-Integrated Graphicon(TM) 2000/STX (HG2000/STX) Image Generator to LORAL Western Development Labs (LORAL) of San Jose, Calif., for a U.S. Army helicopter simulator program. The HG2000/STX was selected by LORAL to provide real-time image generation for the Rotary Wing Aircraft (RWA) simulation technology research program.
LORAL is the prime contractor for the Army's Advanced Distributed Simulation Technology (ADST) program, a development program for simulation technology related to the Army's Combined Arms Tactical Training (CATT) Family of networked simulators. The RWA portion of ADST focuses on developing a test-bed environment to determine the Army's simulation requirements for rotary wing aircraft (helicopters). The results of the RWA program will assist in identifying the specifications for the Army's Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer (AVCATT) program.
"We selected the HG2000/STX because it offers a unique combination of flexible, modular design and high-resolution imagery capabilities at a very cost-effective price," said Warren E. Richeson, director of simulation and training, LORAL. "In addition to price, its off-the- shelf availability for early delivery and its ease of integration with the RWA visual displays were important factors in our selection of Star Technologies."
For the RWA application, Star Technologies will deliver an 8-channel HG2000/STX which will drive both out-the-window and helmet-mounted displays. The HG2000 incorporates a real-time host computer to perform database management and interface to the networked simulation system.
"This award affirms the importance of an affordable, high- performance image generator to current defense programs," said Thomas A. Meckley, Star's vice president of sales.
The Host-Integrated Graphicon 2000/STX is a high-performance, low- cost image generator used to produce textured, anti-aliased, real-time visual scenes for simulation and training. The HG2000/STX leads the industry in price/performance and flexibility, offering high-end image quality at a significantly lower price than its competitors. In addition, its modular architecture permits the HG2000/STX to be easily expanded and configured to meet a variety of requirements for multiple channels, increased resolution and increased scene complexity.
Star Technologies is a manufacturer of high-performance computing products, including image generators, array processors and compute servers. Star's G2000/STX image generator was also recently selected for the U.S. Navy's Visual System Upgrade Program of the SH-2F and Sh-60B/F Helicopters. Other G2000 customers include AAI Corp., Luke Air Force Base, McDonnell Douglas, Technology Service Corporation, Alenia and the Federal Highway Administration. Star's Graphicon division is located at P.O. Box 13951, Research Triangle Park, N.C. 27709, 919-361-3800.
