John Randolph "Jack" Webb (April 2 1920 – December 23 1982) was an American actor, television producer, director and writer who is most famous for his role as Sergeant Joe Friday in the , was killed in a collision with a California Highway Patrol car, authorities said.
Webb, 46, and passenger Stephen Barnicoat, 41, both died in the Friday night crash. The Highway Patrol report said Webb's pickup turned left in front of a patrol cruiser at an intersection on Highway 62 and overturned in the collision.
Officer Elaine Bernal, 39, was treated at a Palm Springs hospital and released. Open alcoholic beverage containers were in Webb's pickup, according to the Highway Patrol.
