STA builds city's future, restores its past.

The Subcontractors Trade Association (STA) was established in July 1966, and as of today we have a membership of over 350 subcontractors and suppliers in the greater New York New York, state, United States

area covering just about every discipline in the construction industry.

Our members are devoted to "Building New York's Future & Restoring its Past".

Our goal is to improve the economic well being of our members through representation, support and assistance through the process of legislation, legal action, public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. By its nature, public relations is devoted to serving particular interests by presenting them to the public in the most , education and other public information programs. The STA focuses its activities on problems affecting subcontractors in public and private construction.

In 1975, with the support of the Empire State Subcontractors Association (ESSA ESSA Environmental Science Services Administration
ESSA Economic Society of South Africa
ESSA English Schools Swimming Association
ESSA Emergency Social Services Association
ESSA Eastern Shan State Army

) and its four state chapters, the STA embarked on a legislative program that has successfully produced 37 pieces of legislation to protect and improve the economic well-being of its members.

The very first piece of legislation made it illegal for any contract to contain a "waiver of lien" on either public or private jobs. Our subsequent legislation throughout the years have further enhanced the well being of the subcontractor One who takes a portion of a contract from the principal contractor or from another subcontractor.

When an individual or a company is involved in a large-scale project, a contractor is often hired to see that the work is done.

In our day to day activities, we represent our members in dealing with the public agencies, authorities and private developers. Our philosophy centers on dispute resolution without the need for litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute.

When a person begins a civil lawsuit, the person enters into a process called litigation.

Initiating "information meetings" between the owners, the general contractor A general contractor is an organization or individual that contracts with another organization or individual (the owner) for the construction of a building, road or any other execution of work or facility. , construction manager and the subcontractor have proved to be most successful. On the rare occasion when this approach has failed to produce results, members are afforded the services of our legal counsel.

The resulting "umbrella" action allows all affected subcontractors to share in a single representation. With legal fees that are shared on a basis that is proportional to each individual claim, and the strength of multiple representation is very evident in the eventual resolution.

In addition, we have a number of unique services available to our members. This includes the Business Practice Interchange (BPI (Bits Per Inch) The measurement of the number of bits stored in one linear inch of a track (storage channel) on a disk or tape. Bit density on magnetic disks has reached 800,000 bpi (800 Kbpi). See tpi, areal density and magnetic disk.
