ST. PAUL BANCORP MOURNS DEATH OF DIRECTOR JOHN GEAREN

 CHICAGO, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Paul Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPBC), the holding company for Chicago-based St. Paul Federal Bank For Savings, today said it mourns the passing of John J. "Jack" Gearen, a member of its board of directors. Mr. Gearen, 78, died April 9, 1993. He had served on St. Paul's board since 1973.
 St. Paul Federal, the largest independent thrift institution headquartered in Illinois, operates 48 retail banking offices throughout metropolitan Chicago. St. Paul Federal provides discount brokerage, insurance and real estate development services through its subsidiaries.
