SSL VPN secures PDAs. (Security).


Aventail have announced the first SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.  VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks.  to support full anywhere, anytime, application access on a PocketPC. IT organisations can utilise Aventail's SSL VPN to authenticate (1) To verify (guarantee) the identity of a person or company. To ensure that the individual or organization is really who it says it is. See authentication and digital certificate.

, authorise and encrypt, access across any application or device supported by PocketPC, including the full functionality of Microsoft Pocket Outlook and Exchange. Other examples include allowing shop-floor managers at manufacturing firms to place on-the-spot orders or empowering employees of logistics companies to access customer orders and update package information as part of a global package tracking system with their PocketPC.

Customers can incorporate support for PocketPC into their overall suite of remote access, allowing IT to use the same policy, platform, and product to support remote access via kiosks, laptops, home office computers and extranets.
