The availability of both skilled and unskilled labour has remained relatively stable in the Saskatoon region.

In 2004, 50.6% of industrial managers rated the availability of skilled workers as being either good or excellent, compared to 48.1% in 2003. Similarly, in 2004, 71.6% rated the availability of unskilled labour as also being either good or excellent whereas only 65.1% agreed with the availability of unskilled labour in 2003.

Most industrial managers are highly satisfied with their employees' work ethic, skill level, and labour management relations.

In 2004, there was an increase in all of these categories: 96.8% of managers rated labour management relations as being either good or excellent, while 95.1% rated their employees' work ethic as being either good or excellent, and 93.7% found employee skill level for assigned as·sign

In 2004, 49.8% of all respondents reported their sales were up over the previous year, 37.9% indicated that business was steady, and 12.3% reported a decline. This is an improvement over 2003 when 45% of industrial managers surveyed indicated their sales were up, 37% steady, and 18% experienced a decline.

Industrial managers continue to express a high degree of optimism about their potential for future growth.

The biotechnology and mining sectors were the most positive, with 100% of respondents ranking their future prospects as being either good or excellent.

The majority of companies surveyed shared this optimism; 82.2% of all respondents felt that their prospects were either excellent or good. The breakdown by sector was: food processing Food processing is the set of methods and techniques used to transform raw ingredients into food for consumption by humans or animals. The food processing industry utilises these processes.  89.5%, transportation 80%, information technology & telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance.
