The overall "TEP-6" project was awarded to AT&T in August 1994 as a result of a request for tender issued in 1993 by the Ministry of Post, Telegraph and Telephone (MOPTT MOPTT Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Telecommunication ) of Saudi Arabia. The request was a major expansion of the telecommunications network in Saudi Arabia and was bid by invitation only by the world's seven largest telecommunications companies. SRT was a member of the successful AT&T team that submitted its tender for the project in 1993. Under the terms of their Agreement with the MOPTT AT&T will supply some 1,500,000 telephone lines throughout Saudi Arabia over a period of about seven years for US $4 Billion. All of SRT's usual competitors bid for the SRS portion of the TEP-6 project either in conjunction with their parent organizations or to companies other than AT&T. SRT expects that deliveries of SR500 systems to AT&T could commence as early as Q4 in 1995 and will accelerate through 1996 and 1997.
