The purpose of the festival was to celebrate the love of the dance, not competition, said Doris Foster, president of Aces and Deuces, a local club.

``We don't have contests. We dance for fun,'' said Foster.

The roundup was sponsored primarily by the Antelope Valley Square Dancers, an umbrella organization

CrossFire machines require PCI Express slots, a CrossFire-enabled motherboard and, depending on which models are used, either a pair of ATI Radeon adapters or one  Squares, and Aces and Deuces.

Aces and Deuces, which last year celebrated its 30th anniversary, hosts classes for people interested in learning to square dance.

A 17-week session of classes starts June 22. Classes are held at 7 p.m. Thursdays, the first two classes at the Cedar Center, 44857 Cedar Ave., Lancaster, and the remainder at Sunnydale Elementary School.

It is important for dancers to attend regularly and progress through square dancing's stages, learning the different calls, terminology and moves, Foster said.

After dancers complete the 17-week course, they can become full-fledged Aces and Deuces members.

``They have to start at the beginning,'' vice president Theresa Pfleugrath said. ``You progress along and you are learning new calls every week and adding them to repertoire. You may start out with 10 basic calls and then the next week there may be another five or six and you keep adding. By the time you are done with the course you're probably learning 40 different kinds of movements.''

Aces and Deuces dances, open to the public, are held at 7 p.m. on the second Saturday of every month at the Palmdale Senior Center, 1002 E. Ave. Q-12. Admission is $4 a person.
