SQR Manages Satellite Coverage of Olympics.

, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 24, 1996--MITI, a leading manufacturer of database reporting and data movement tools, today announced that its flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. , the SQR Query and reporting software from Hyperion Solutions Corporation, Santa Clara, CA (www.hyperion.com) that provides a graphical front end for designing and generating complex, high-volume reports.  Reporting System, will provide core management, scheduling and billing functions for live worldwide satellite television coverage of the 1996 Olympic Games Olympic games, premier athletic meeting of ancient Greece, and, in modern times, series of international sports contests. The International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT), the world's largest satellite carrier, will use the SQR Reporting System and SQR data movement functions to help distribute 27,000 hours of live coverage to 197 countries worldwide, for a total estimated audience of 3.5 billion people.

"SQR forms a major part of the sales and billing automated services for satellite transmissions," said Dr. James Rader, an INTELSAT manager. "As a procedural extension to SQL SQL

Computer programming language used for retrieving records or parts of records in databases and performing various calculations before displaying the results.
with dozens of native database drivers, SQR lets us manipulate relational data more efficiently than we could with any other tool, and we rely on it to help us manage millions of minutes of satellite bookings and billings, in three official languages, for hundreds of countries worldwide. We consider it a core part of our information architecture."

Distributing a Worldwide Event

Beginning July 19, 1996, INTELSAT will begin broadcasting minute-to-minute live coverage of the Olympic Games over 13 of its 25 satellites worldwide.

INTELSAT uses SQR-built programs to take online orders for satellite coverage, distribute internal and external reports on satellite capacity and bookings, schedule satellite services, forecast capacity requirements, and bill customers accurately for satellite time.

"With any data management tool, scalability is a major issue," said Warren Weiss, president of MITI. "Organizations that are growing and taking on more business need to know that their tools can handle bigger databases, larger user communities, and greater volumes of data requests efficiently and reliably. INTELSAT has learned over the years that with SQR, you never hit a wall. And, our support of INTELSAT's massive and extremely mission-critical Olympics coverage proves this."

About INTELSAT

The International Satellite Telecommunications Organization (INTELSAT) owns and operates the world's most extensive global communications satellite communications satellite  artificial satellite that functions as part of a global radio-communications network. Echo 1, the first communications satellite, launched in 1960, was an instrumented inflatable sphere that passively reflected radio signals back to  system. With 1995 revenues of over $805 million, the INTELSAT system provides voice/data and video services via satellite.

About SQR

The SQR Reporting System features SQR Servers, which provide native data access and manipulation capabilities optimized for more than 80 database/operating system combinations, along with SQR Workbench, a comprehensive toolset for creating and executing high-volume production reports. Built around powerful procedural extensions to SQL, SQR products can be used to perform complex calculations on large data sets, to move and "scrub" data among multiple databases, warehouses and marts, or to back up and restore production systems.
