SPRINT PROMOTES DISCOUNT CALLING PLAN WITH CELEBRITY CUTOUTS,
FREE PHONE CALLS AT AREA MALLS
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Shoppers will see some familiar faces in area malls when Sprint (NYSE: FON) kicks off a nationwide campaign to introduce mall patrons to the company's highly successful residential calling plan, "The Most."
From Aug. 15 to Sept. 20, shoppers at Southland Mall, Stonestown Galleria and Tanforan Park will be able to visit Sprint booths featuring the "Picture Yourself with The Most" campaign and be photographed next to a cardboard cutout of a famous celebrity.
Sprint will give the photograph to the shoppers free of charge. Sprint also will offer shoppers free three-minute calls to domestic or international locations.
Forty-six malls in 16 major metropolitan areas are participating in the campaign. Three celebrity figures chosen from a list of 18 popular American celebrities, including Batman, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jordan, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and others, will be at each mall.
Shoppers also will receive a check good for $20, which may be used toward mall merchandise, when they sign up for "The Most" and use at least $10 worth of Sprint long distance service in any one month during the first three months.
For unrestricted plans, Sprint's "The Most" is often the least expensive plan, with the fewest restrictions, according to a recent independent study done by the Telecommunications Research and Action Center (TRAC). "The Most" proved to be the least expensive calling option for unrestricted calling plans in 12 out of 15 sample monthly bills in TRAC's long distance cost comparison chart.
"Sprint wants to make consumers across the country aware of the savings and value associated with 'The Most' calling plan," said Dave Schmieg, president of Sprint's Consumer Services Group.
"Unlike other calling programs, customers do not have plan restrictions on receiving discounts and are not restricted to a calling circle or limited calling area.
"Since the calling plan was announced in June, the response has been tremendous."
"The Most" will save Sprint customers 20 percent off their calls each month to whomever they talk with the most, including international calls, in a given month -- even if the called person is with a competitive long distance carrier. "The Most" also will provide an automatic 20 percent discount on all calls to Sprint's millions of customers -- anytime and anywhere.
When the number called the most in a given month is a Sprint customer, Sprint will combine both discounts for an effective overall savings of 36 percent on calls to that number.
A Sprint customer on "The Most" who makes $20 in long distance calls to one number in a month would save 20 percent ($4), automatically reducing the cost to $16. If the number called belongs to a Sprint customer, then another 20 percent would be taken off the $16 charge, reducing it to just $12.80.
Metropolitan areas with malls in the "Picture Yourself With The Most" campaign are Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Sacramento, St. Louis, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.9 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscriber lines in 17 states.
