SPRINT PLANS TO HELP MICROSOFT USERS REACH THE WORLD

NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint (NYSE: FON) today announced that it plans to make it possible for personal computer users to "click" on "Send" and reach the world. The move involves development of interfaces between the Microsoft AT Work architecture and Sprint's enhanced fax and messaging services, SprintFAX Broadcast Distribution, Global SprintFAX worldwide fax service and the SprintMail electronic messaging service.
"Sprint is committed to bringing reliable, leading edge technologies to its customers," says Adrian Toader, vice president and general manager of Sprint TeleMedia. "This will advance our goal of providing easy-to-use interfaces to our products to better serve our customers' business and marketing needs."
When the interfaces are fully developed, a user of any Microsoft application will be able to send the output of that application, such as a memo, a document or a spreadsheet, to virtually any location using SprintFAX Broadcast Distribution, Global SprintFAX or SprintMail. Initiating transmission will be as easy as using a mouse to point and click on a "Send" menu option.
The SprintFAX enhanced facsimile platform is the largest in the United States. A customer can fax any document simultaneously and automatically to multiple locations as quickly and easily as a single fax. The system, fully redundant to ensure transmission reliability, is monitored and controlled by a command center in Overland Park, Kan. Sprint was the first carrier to introduce an integrated voice services platform and the first to complement this technology with enhanced facsimile services.
Global SprintFAX is a high-quality, easy-to-use enhanced facsimile service for users worldwide. All Global SprintFAX sites are linked using Sprint's global data network to provide greater reliability for the transport of fax documents. It supports both point-to-point and broadcast delivery and provides multi-currency billing and multi-lingual activity reports. A range of time-saving, value-added features also are supported.
The SprintMail electronic mail service allows users to communicate with 350,000 individuals on the SprintMail service worldwide and with millions more through interconnections with other electronic mail services, office automation systems and LAN e-mail systems. In addition to sending and receiving electronic mail, SprintMail customers can send messages globally to fax and telex devices.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with more than $10 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, local telephone services to nearly 6 million subscriber lines in 19 states, and cellular operations that serve 42 metropolitan markets and more than 50 rural service areas.
