SPRINT NAMES TELLABS WIDEBAND CROSS-CONNECT VENDOR

 LISLE, Ill., March 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Telecommunications equipment manufacturer Tellabs Operations, Inc., announced today that it has been selected by Sprint Corp. to provide a wideband digital cross-connect system that is SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) compatible. Tellabs is the only vendor that was selected in the bidding process. Pending final agreement, Tellabs will furnish its SONET-based TITAN (A) 5500 digital cross-connect system to Sprint. The details of the multi-year, multimillion-dollar award will not be disclosed until completion of final contract terms.

(NASDAQ-NMS: TLAB) "It also speaks to our ability to enhance and support the system in alignment with the future services planned for Sprint's national fiber-optic network."
 The TITAN system provides a gateway between today's network and the evolving SONET network of tomorrow. With this system, Sprint is adding to their investment in the technologies necessary to support the sophisticated needs of their leading corporate and government customers.
