SPRINT INTRODUCES PRODUCTIVITY PLUS VOICE PROCESSING SYSTEM
KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Sprint TeleMedia today announced Productivity Plus, a unique voice response/transaction processing system that enables callers to easily reach computerized databases and carry out transactions using a touch-tone phone keypad.
With Productivity Plus, callers can enter data or request information using only the phone. Since operators are unnecessary, the cost of communicating with customers or employees is reduced.
"Productivity Plus can reduce the cost of providing information to customers and employees," said Adrian Toader, vice president and general manager of Sprint TeleMedia. "Corporations can use it as a competitive tool to provide reliable, cost-effective service."
Callers access database information by using either an automated 800 or 900 number. Companies can offset costs by charging for access to the information from a database through the use of a 900 number, or provide free service with an 800 number. Once on-line, callers use a personal identification number (PIN) to access specific information from the database. The PIN protects proprietary databases from unauthorized access or misuse.
Air Canada, Canada's largest airline, headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, is using Productivity Plus to enhance its operations and reduce costs through automation of its flight information. Air Canada's application enables the company to provide callers with the latest information on arrivals and departures just by calling an 800 number.
The process involves Air Canada transmitting updated flight information to a database at Sprint TeleMedia, where it is translated into speech. Callers use a touch-tone phone to request information, which is "spoken" by the computer.
"This system not only makes our task of updating flight information easier, but makes it simple for our customers to receive that information in a timely manner," said Bruce Deitsch, manager of Reservation Sales -- USA at Air Canada. "This is a win-win situation for everyone."
A leading consumer goods company found that Productivity Plus simplified daily sales reporting from retail outlets, with paperwork and data entry time significantly reduced. Since everything is handled over the telephone, no special training was required.
Other applications for Productivity Plus include customer order placement or service call requests; customer billing inquiries or purchases; college registrations; credit applications, daily sales reporting and employee health care benefit registration.
Sprint TeleMedia provides interactive voice and facsimile services, accessible by 900 and 800 numbers, through Sprint's state-of-the-art fiber-optic network.
Sprint (NYSE: FON) is a diversified international telecommunications company with $8.8 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide, all-digital, fiber-optic network. Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, and local telephone services to more than 4 million subscribers in 17 states.
