SPRING SPORTS: CENTURIONS TAKE LUMPS, LOOK AHEAD TO NEXT SEASON.

Byline: Brian Dalziel Daily News Staff Writer

It was the type of season Saugus High coach Bobbie Estes could have expected from her boys' volleyball volleyball, outdoor or indoor ball and net game played on a level court. An upright net, 3 ft (or 1 m) high, the top of which stands 8 ft (2.43 m) from the ground for men, 7 ft 4 1/8 in (2.  team.

But a 2-12 overall record?

``I was hoping we wouldn't take our lumps,'' Estes said. ``But I knew it was going to be a rebuilding year. Most of my players are raw in volleyball. But they are great students and all play at least another sport. So I thought they would get into (volleyball shape) a little quicker.''

Estes' hopes never became reality.

The Centurions struggled to a 2-7 Foothill League mark, winning the opener against Hart and the season finale For the music notation program, see .

versus Valencia, a team that finished second.

The two-win finish was certainly a far cry from the Centurions' 13-2 overall record and league title a year ago.

``We ended the season on a good note,'' Estes said. ``The guys finally got together and played well. We mixed up some things in the last match and I think the pressure was off them a bit.

``We were a really young team with only three seniors and one of them (C.J. Garrett) was the only starter.''

With that in mind, Saugus could be the team to beat heading into next season.

The Centurions have five players coming back who are 6-feet or taller: Right-side hitter Mike Grisanti, who is 6-6; 6-7 middle blocker Jason Moore Jason Moore may refer to:

Cook will be a junior, the rest seniors.

``They are going to be good,'' Estes said. ``They've come a long way as individuals and as a team and they are looking forward to the future.''
