SPRING CLEANUP SET IN HIGH DESERT.

The Antelope Valley
 residents can clean up during Antelope Valley Environmental Pride Week, which will begin Saturday and will run through April 27.

Lancaster, Palmdale and unincorporated communities' residents on April 27 can dispose of oil, paint, paint thinner A paint thinner is a solvent used to thin oil-based paints, or as a cleaning agent.

Paint thinners include:
  • Acetone
  • Mineral spirits
  • Mineral turpentine (turps)
  • Wood turpentine
  • Naphtha
  • Toluene
  • Xylene
Brands and their Constituents
, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, batteries and pool chemicals. The disposal sites will not accept explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, trash, tires or business waste.

People should bring items in a sturdy box, with their original labels if possible. Liquid items should not be mixed together.

Items will be collected between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. April 27 at Vista San Gabriel San Gabriel (săn gā`brēəl), city (1990 pop. 37,120), Los Angeles co., SW Calif.; inc. 1913. Electronic waste items such as computer equipment, cell phones, fax machines, stereos and VCRs will also be accepted at both locations.

During Palmdale Pride Week, Palmdale residents who are also Waste Management customers can get rid of bulky household items by placing them at the curb by 6 a.m. on their regularly scheduled trash pickup day between April 22 and April 26.

Trash items may include: Two large items or 28 trash bags or 14 trash bags and one large item.

The city of Palmdale will let residents drop off used oil and old tires from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 22-26 at the city's Central Maintenance Facility, 39110 3rd St. E.

Focus Neighborhood cleanup will take place from 8 to 11:30 a.m. April 27 in Palmdale, while a composting workshop will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. the same day at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 38350 Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling .

Lancaster residents can dispose of old passenger vehicle tires free of dirt April 27 at the vacant lot on Avenue K and 10th Street East. State law prohibits residents from transporting more than nine waste tires without an exemption form, which can be obtained from Lancaster's Department of Public Works by calling (661) 723-6129.

Also on April 27, Lancaster will hold its annual community cleanup. Residents should call (661) 723-6129 to volunteer. Volunteers should arrive at 8 a.m. at JetHawks Stadium for assignments. A free barbecue will be held at noon at the stadium for all volunteers.
