SPRING CLEANERS RECYCLE THE JUNK; BINS SET UP NEAR CONEJO PARK.

Cars and trucks loaded with cast-offs lined up outside the city's free trash and recycling drop-off site Saturday morning.

``We're better organized than we were last year, so we're moving people through more quickly,'' said Fernando Solis Fernando Solis Lara is a professional radio and TV host, born in Valdivia, Chile.

, a county maintenance worker who helped residents dump garden and yard trimmings into four trailers.

Thirty bins dotted the empty lot at the south end of Conejo Creek Park, and drivers wound through a route designed to make the most of their cast-offs.

``The first stop is the Goodwill trucks. Then they go to (bins for) scrap metal and concrete,'' city worker Manuel Barrera said. ``The last stop is (at bins for) the green waste, and then there are bins just for trash.''

Furniture and household goods go to the Goodwill Assessment Center in Oxnard, where workers in job-training programs will refurbish re·fur·bish

Residents could also rid themselves of large household appliances beyond repair and old tires, which go to recycling centers to become materials for new products.

The free trash and recycling drop-off day is part of a city plan to reduce the amount of waste sent to the Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  Landfill. Each year, about 300 tons of material is discarded in the area, and about 100 tons is diverted from the landfill.

``There's one guy who's already made three trips,'' Barrera said. ``We've seen a lot of people come back a second time.''

Barry Hammond made his second drop-off at about 11 a.m.
