SPORTS MEDIA ANNOUNCES NBA YEARBOOKS FOR '93 WILL JOIN NFL TITLES ON RETAIL STORE RACKS NATIONWIDE

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeffrey S. Butler, chairman and CEO of Sports Media, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPTS), announced today that Sports Media will publish 19 National Basketball Association (NBA) yearbooks for the 1993-94 season. All titles will be sold at NBA games, on newsstands outside arenas, and -- for the first time -- at hundreds of sporting goods retailers nationwide.
Sports Media's lineup of NBA teams for the upcoming season includes the Chicago Bulls, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and Washington Bullets. All titles will be ready for sale at retail in November.
Sports Media, the largest publisher and distributor of professional sports team yearbooks, will have NFL yearbooks for at least 17 teams on sale in September at sporting goods stores nationwide. The NFL teams include the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Houston Oilers, Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Raiders, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Phoenix Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Washington Redskins. In addition to those published by Sports Media, the company has negotiated distribution rights for other sports team yearbooks.
"The completion of contracts with so many key NBA teams, following our agreements with NFL teams and with major retailers such as Herman's, gives us tremendous momentum going into September," said Mr. Butler. "With the addition of Major League baseball yearbooks, advertisers will have a high quality, yet affordable, alternative to reach the sports- minded consumer throughout the year."
Mr. Butler joined Sports Media in July, 1992, after spending 23 years as the founder and operator of the East/West Network, Inc. which was the largest publisher of U.S. in-flight magazines.
 NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION PLAN
Professional sports team yearbooks have traditionally been sold almost exclusively in stadiums and arenas. Sports Media began a successful test of retail outlets in December, 1992 with distributions at 28 Herman's World of Sporting Goods stores in metropolitan New York, using the company's own lucite carousel display which carries 40 individual titles and a composite of 200 yearbooks per display unit. Herman's has expanded distribution to 125 locations nationwide, and Sports Media will soon announce agreements with other national retailers.
