Fastpitch needs a home

In Eugene, there is a lack of fastpitch softball Fastpitch softball is a sport played commonly by girls, though male and co-ed fastpitch leagues also exist. The United States fastpitch softball team has won back-to-back-to-back gold medals at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.  fields for ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and  league. Junction City Junction City, city (1990 pop. 20,604), seat of Geary co., NE Kans., at the confluence of the Republican and Smoky Hill rivers; inc. 1859. The rail, trade, and processing center of an agricultural and dairy area, it grew as the supply point for nearby Fort Riley,  has a softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  complex and Eugene doesn't. There always seems to be a shortage of places to play. High schools generally don't let ASA play on their fields. The boys teams have plenty. All of us ASA girls just want to be treated equally.

There are more than a handful of ASA teams that have troubles finding fields to practice on. Girls need a place to practice and get ready for games. An example is the Meadowview Baseball complex. That complex has four nice fields with concrete walkways, a clubhouse and a concession stand Concession stand is the term used to refer to a place where patrons can purchase snacks or food at a cinema, fair, Stadium, or other entertainment venue. Some events or venues contract out the right to sell food to third parties. . The boys get all the facilities, but Eugene doesn't have any nice complexes. And the only reason Junction City has a complex is because their community actually cares and sponsors them. Eugene businesses seem to only sponsor the baseball complexes.

Eugene needs to notice what is happening to fastpitch softball in Eugene. The businesses need to get involved and help us out. Girls can play as well as guys can and sometimes better. We just want to play the game and play it well. But we can't do that without proper facilities.

Bench talent can't sit

Ron Bellamy "Rockin'" Ron Bellamy (born December 13, 1964) is an American professional boxer. He is the half-brother of former NBA center Walt Bellamy. Ron also started his career in basketball, playing collegiately at UNC-Charlotte and professionally in New Zealand and Europe.  implies in his Thursday column that Oregon coach Bev Smith Bev Smith (born April 4 1960) is the head women's basketball coach at the University of Oregon. She has held that position since 2001, replacing controversial coach Jody Runge, and has posted an 83-69 record.  didn't get much from her bench in the second half. She didn't play her bench in the second half. Players were exhausted, especially Gabrielle Richards (just coming back after an illness). If Carolyn Ganes had relieved her for a few minutes, Gabe's shots at the end might have fallen, and the game is over.

For longtime fans, and I am one, there is no excuse for this season. My son watched the Stanford game with me, and his only comment was, "We got outcoached." The same thing on the Arizona trip, where both games were there to be won. The same in Corvallis.

Is Bev watching the same game we are? Brandi Davis sits when we need speed and shooting and ballhandling. Those are things that Brandi does very well. She is good enough to force the other team out of its press. She is a player who could be a coach on the floor, a senior leader on a team without any leadership. It was Bev's job to turn her into that player. That is what coaches do. Good coaches, anyway.

My wife and I have had season tickets for five years now. Games in The Pit used to be special. Now it has taken on that empty feel, the feel you get when people are staying home. People are voting with their wallets. Unless there are changes at the top, we won't be renewing our tickets.
