Pleasant Hill reaches State Junior semifinals

Pleasant Hill won its second game and Thurston evend its record at 1-1 with second-round victories at the State Junior Division 1 baseball tournament on Friday at Marist and Pleasant Hill.

Host Pleasant Hill defeated Sprague 1-0 and Thurston downed McMinnville 12-2 at Marist. Newport fell to Warrenton 7-3 at Marist for its second loss of the tournament.

Thurston will meet Lake Oswego at 11 a.m. today at Marist, and Pleasant Hill will host North Marion at 6 p.m.

Scott Daletas gave Pleasant Hill its win when he was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a squeeze bunt by Kyle Thoms.

Pleasant Hill's Dylan Price allowed four hits in seven innings and struck out seven.

Salem Post 9 completes two-game series sweep

Salem Post 9 defeated the Eugene Bi-Mart Challengers 11-6 on Friday at Swede Johnson Stadium to win the best-of-three Area 3/4 American Legion baseball playoffs and advance to the state tournament.

Dan White was 3-for-4 with a triple, Dan Winterstein was 2-for-5 and Shawn Peterson had a two-run double for the Challengers.

Richey's Market of Corvallis and the Medford Mustangs also advanced. The Challengers host the state tournament Aug. 2-6.
