Alexander leads Lane's recruiting class

Omlid wins Girls Junior Amateur sectional

WOODBURN - Erica Omlid of Springfield shot a 4-over-par 76 in sectional qualifying Friday to advance to the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur to be held July 17-22 at Carmel Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.

Junior college QB commits to Beavers

Lyle Moevao, a quarterback at El Camino Community College, has committed to Oregon State after also being recruited and offered a scholarship by Nebraska, according to the Journal Star newspaper in Lincoln, Neb.

The 6-foot, 225-pound Moevao will have three seasons of eligibility remaining, and also a redshirt year available since he was at the California junior college for only one season. Moevao completed 63 percent of his passes last season for 2,652 yards and 29 touchdowns in 12 games, though he didn't start until the fourth game.

Moevao was academically qualified out of high school to be eligible at a four-year college, but was lightly recruited after playing in a run-oriented offense.

Miller leads East in all-star game

SALEM - Powder Valley's Kali Miller, the Class 1A player of the year, had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the East to a 59-54 victory over the West in a Class 1A girls basketball all-star game at Corban College on Friday.

Kathleen Luce of Powers led the West with 12 points, and McKenzie's Esther Kelso and Lowell's Jessica Comstock each added six points.

The final game in the two-game series is today at George Fox College in Newberg.
