Roddick rockets past Rochus in third round

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. - Andy Roddick served 18 aces, one clocked at 147 mph, on his way to a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory over Olivier Rochus in the third round of the Pacific Life Open on Monday.

Roddick overcame 33 unforced errors with his strong serve and well-placed forehands. Rochus made 12 fewer unforced errors than his American opponent, but did not have a single ace.

Julien Benneteau of France bounced another highly ranked American, No. 6 James Blake, out of the tournament with a 6-2, 7-6 (1) victory in their match.

Ducks rally in second round of Fresno tourney

FRESNO, Calif. - Oregon recovered from a rough start by shooting a 4-over 292 in Monday's afternoon round to stand ninth among 15 men's teams at the Fresno State-Lexus Golf Classic.

The Ducks opened the tournament with a 305 and were in 12th place before bouncing back. Derek Sipe was tied for 21st at 4-over 148, and Eric Hastings was two shots back and tied for 25th.

San Diego State had the team lead at 564, five strokes ahead of UC Irvine.

Beavers move up to fifth in four baseball polls

CORVALLIS - Oregon State moved up three places to No. 5 in this week's USA Today/ESPN national baseball coaches poll. The Beavers (17-3) have won six straight games after sweeping Evansville last week to open their home season.
