LANCASTER - With holiday commercialism everywhere, it can be easy to forget that many area families have difficulty putting meals on the table and providing the basic necessities each day, much less providing their children with holiday gifts.

 with ornamental tags that indicate the needs and wishes of children and families who participate in the hospital's Healthy Homes program, which is aimed at preventing child abuse and helping women deliver healthy full-term infants.

The Angel Tree will be on display in the hospital cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant. . Anyone can come and take a tag from the tree, buy the gift or gifts written on the tag, and bring them to the hospital's Nursing Administration office.

Healthy Homes' staff will distribute the gifts to the requesting families in time for the holidays.

``The recipients of these gifts are primarily families who are at or below the poverty level,'' said Lea Butterfield, director of Healthy Homes. ``The parents are either employed or in a training or education program to improve their employment opportunities. They are hard-working people who simply do not have the income needed for the kind of holiday celebrations so many of us take for granted.''

This is the seventh year for the Angel Tree project. In past years, hospital physicians, employees, volunteers, board members and visitors have donated do·nate

People can pick up a tag through Dec. 12 and can deliver unwrapped gifts to no later than Dec. 15.
