SPOKESMAN FOR OPENING DAY BASEBALL STORIES: MICHAEL F. THOMPSON

BUFFALO, N.Y., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Each year at major and minor league baseball stadiums across the United States, fans consume literally tons of old-fashioned hot dogs (last year, 836,424 dogs at Comiskey Park alone). However, a menu mix is in the making, and Michael F. Thompson is behind much of it.
Thompson is president of Sportservice Corporation, a multi-national foodservice company based in Buffalo, N.Y., that has redesigned stadium foodservice in Chicago; Cincinnati; Detroit; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Charlotte, N.C.; Harrisburg, Pa.; Louisville, Ky.; Wichita, Kansas; Phoenix; and Port Charlotte, Fla., by borrowing concepts from retail marketing.
Can the fan who desires a grilled chicken breast sandwich on a wheat roll, a garden salad and yogurt chaser find happiness at Comiskey Park? Can the fan who dreams of wait-service including a mobile dessert cart with coffee and liqueurs? Can the family who prefers an intimate, non-beer and non-smoking environment? The must-have-Mexican fan? Yes and more to all of the above. And, yes to regional specialties such as the Cincinnati Cheese Coney, the Chicago Pizza and the Milwaukee Bratwurst sandwich.
Thompson also has instituted a Designated Driver program (DD gets free sodas and an identifying wristband in return for not drinking beer), and a Kids Corner (same-size meals at reduced prices for children under 12 and their adult guests).
In short, Thompson is in tune with the times, in tune with the industry and in tune with people.
