SPLIT DECISION: NEBRASKA'S VICTORY CONVINCES COACHES; AP PICKS MICHIGAN.

Michigan Michigan (mĭsh`ĭgən), upper midwestern state of the United States. It consists of two peninsulas thrusting into the Great Lakes and has borders with Ohio and Indiana (S), Wisconsin (W), and the Canadian province of Ontario (N,E).  was right. There wasn't anything left to prove.

 and broadcasters late Friday night. Seven of AP's voters split their final No. 1 pick.

A half hour later, the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll was released, and those siding with Nebraska coach Tom Osborne prevailed. Nebraska received 32 first-place votes to Michigan's 30.

In the AP poll, the Cornhuskers closed the gap considerably from the final regular-season vote, but still fell well short, collecting 18-1/2 first-place votes and 1,698-1/2 points. Going into the bowl games, Michigan led Nebraska by 68 first-place votes and 68 points. In the final poll, Michigan came out ahead by 33 first-place votes and 33 points.

Green is best known for his accomplishments playing for the Green Bay Packers.  rushed for an record 206 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cornhuskers, who limited Peyton Manning Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American football quarterback who plays for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Colts with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.  - also in his last college game - to 134 yards.

Frost was 9 for 12 for 125 yards and scored on runs of 1, 11 and 9 yards.

The Cornhuskers' pass rush forced Manning to hurry his throws, and the All-American completed 21 of 31 passes in his final game. He was replaced by sophomore Tee Martin Tamaurice Nigel "Tee" Martin (born July 25, 1978 in Mobile, Alabama) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League and Canadian Football League. Martin coached at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.  with four minutes remaining.

Green, named Nebraska's most valuable player, finished with 29 carries and broke the Orange Bowl record of 205 yards set by Roland Sales of Arkansas Arkansas, river, United States
