Residents looking to be inspired are encouraged to volunteer for the Special Olympics Special Olympics

International sports program for people with intellectual disability. It provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type summer and winter sports for participants.
 fourth annual Spirit Games Competition scheduled for May 21.

Approximately 600 volunteers are needed for this year's competition, ``The Spirit of Greatness,'' featuring more than 1,000 athletes.

A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available beginning on May 20 with set-up and continuing on May 21 with workers needed to help with various sports venues, the Olympic Village Frequently, an Olympic Village is built within an Olympic Park or elsewhere in a host city. Olympic Villages are built to house all participating athletes, as well as officials, trainers, etc. The idea of the Olympic Village comes from Pierre de Coubertin. , registration, set-up and tear-down. Volunteers can work either half the day or all day on May 21.

 in Newhall and competitions will be held at Hart High, Placerita Junior High, Newhall Park, Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Aquatics Center, Vista Valencia Golf Course and the Newhall Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. Only two out of a total of thirteen episodes created were broadcast on Fox Television in the United States and Global Television in Canada. .

Those wishing to volunteer can request a volunteer application from the Special Olympics office by calling (661) 253-2922. The form must be returned to the office by April 15.
