SPIE to launch new quarterly magazine and news web site in 2006.

The International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE; Bellingham, WA) will begin the production of two new information sources beginning in 2006, including "SHE Professional," a quarterly journal, and SPIE Newsroom, a web site.

"SPIE Professional" will be distributed to all 17,000+ SPIE members as well as select non-member professionals, including entrepreneurs and innovators, managers and senior executives, and will focus on the profession of optics, career development and industry trends. The association said that editorial will "be devoted to keeping optics and photonics professionals abreast of professional development issues and significant industry insights specific to our community." Articles will be written to help engineers and scientists "succeed in their careers," the SPIE said.

The SPIE Newsroom web site will focus on the latest news and technical developments in optics and photonics worldwide. The site will target 13 distinct technical communities, including professionals who work in the fields of biomedical optics and medical imaging, micro/nano lithography, communications and networking, electronic imaging and signal processing, remote sensing, lasers, solar and alternative energy, nanotechnology, defense and security, illumination and displays, industrial sensing and measurement, optical design and engineering, and astronomy.

Monthly e-mail alerts from the Newsroom will highlight recent headlines, upcoming events, corporate services, new publications and professional development opportunities.
