Sponsored by Mrs. Dash Mrs. Dash is a brand name of seasoning marketed by the U.S.-based company Alberto-Culver. The best known varieties of Mrs. Dash are granulated mixtures of dried herbs and spices which are sold in small plastic shaker bottles.

Mrs.
, a company that makes gourmet spices, the speed-cooking event pitted a bride-to-be against a groom-to-be. The bride and groom were not a couple but instead were picked randomly from the audience.

Yolanda Cerda, a dietitian from San Gabriel, acknowledged she went into the competition with an advantage because she cooks so much at home and for her job.

But Eduardo Muyalde, a mechanic at Team Ford in Oxnard, nearly pulled off an upset win.

Muyalde said from the outset that he does not cook that often. Edged by just a few seconds in getting his meal on the table, Muyalde credited his profession with giving him fast hands.

``I'm a mechanic. Everything has to be done fast,'' Muyalde said.

By coincidence both of their future mothers-in-law were selected to be coaches. However, the moderator decided the mothers-in-law should help the competition rather than their child's intended spouse.

Jo Stewart, who is to become Cerda's mother-in-law, pressed Muyalde hard in the competition to cook faster than her future daughter-in-law.

``I'm a nurse, and I have a lot of experience in the delivery room. I'm used to coaching young guys who are trying to help their wives through labor,'' Stewart said.

Both Cerda and Muyalde won large gift baskets A gift basket, or fruit basket is typically a gift that is delivered to the recipient at their home or workplace.
