SPICE ISLAND; Posh and Becks plan to buy a pounds 6million private isle..just off the coast of Essex!
POSH Spice and David Beckham have set their hearts on an idyllic pounds 6 million private island, the Sunday People can reveal today.
But there's no danger of Becks missing any Man United games or Posh not seeing her family - because the 330-acre hideaway is just off the coast of ESSEX.
Osea Island - once used as a drying-out centre for wealthy alcoholics - would be the perfect sanctuary for the Beckhams, who constantly worry about their son Brooklyn and the threat of stalkers.
Posh, 26, and Becks, 25, have already viewed the half-mile long isle from a chartered helicopter and have told friends that they are "very keen" to buy it.
The secluded island - in the estuary of the River Blackwater five miles from the nearest town, Maldon - is cut off from the mainland for 20 hours a day.
It has a 10-bedroom manor house, 26 cottages, a farm, its own water supply from a natural spring, a landing strip and private quay. It's 215 miles from Manchester and just 50 from the Hertfordshire home of Posh's mum and dad.One islander said last night: "It is an ideal place for someone looking for privacy and a beautiful away-from-it-all environment.
"We know Posh and Becks have already had a good look at the place from a helicopter which is one of the best ways to see the island. The gossip is that the next time they visit they intend to come over by car and have a good look at things and view the big house. But clearly they are very interested. It would be perfect for them."
It would be ideal for bringing up Brooklyn in a safe and healthy environment. The multi-millionaire couple have already been the target of stalkers and at least one bid to kidnap their son.
Posh and Becks own a pounds 2.5 million mansion in Hertfordshire and a pounds 1.5 million flat in Cheshire - but the pounds 6million asking price for Osea is well within their reach.
The island is currently owned by retired electronics tycoon David Cole and his wife Hilary. They have lived there for more than 30 years but now spend most of their time sailing or abroad and want to sell up. The sale is in the hands of estate agents Knight Frank.
Mr Cole said last night: "It is a beautiful, peaceful place with no noise or fumes. It is like living in the Hebrides but less than 50 miles from London. There is nowhere else like it in the country."
Used as a staging post by the invading Romans 2000 years ago, Osea was bought by the Charrington brewing family in the early 1900s and turned into a drink-free haven for alcoholics to recover.
Potential buyers in the past have included Richard Branson.
An islander said last night: "We are all hoping Posh and Becks buy it. It would be the most exciting thing to happen here in ages.
