SPI, OSHA extend safety program.


The Society of the Plastics Industry Founded in 1937, The Society of the Plastics Industry Inc. is the trade association representing one of the largest manufacturing industries in the United States. SPI's members represent the entire plastics industry supply chain, including processors, machinery and equipment  in Washington, D.C., has renewed its alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. agency established (1970) in the Dept. of Labor (see Labor, United States Department of) to develop and enforce regulations for the safety and health of workers in businesses that are engaged in interstate  for a second year and plans to extend the program beyond injection molding to thermoforming and extrusion operations. The goal of the alliance is to help SPI members identify and eliminate workplace hazards. Of particular concern are conditions that can result in amputation amputation (ăm'pyətā`shən), removal of all or part of a limb or other body part. Although amputation has been practiced for centuries, the development of sophisticated techniques for treatment and prevention of infection has greatly  injuries and ergonomic hazards.
