SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1997--Wave Wireless Networking See wireless network. , manufacturer of high performance wireless building to building solutions, Wednesday announced the availability of SPEEDLAN 10 - a 10 Mbps wireless Ethernet The standard for wireless networking within a home or office. Also known as a "Wi-Fi" or "802.11" network, wireless Ethernet is the wireless counterpart to regular, wired Ethernet, which is also the standard for local networks. Wave Wireless is positioning the product as the first wireless product capable of creating a high performance multi-point backbone. SPEEDLAN 10 provides private, secure wireless connectivity for LAN's at a lower cost than fiber or microwave. The system may be installed in as little as one day with complete kits provided by the company.

SPEEDLAN 10 provides connectivity at half the cost of traditional microwave products and is 6 times faster than a T1. Special PRC software improves performance 15 times over typical wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. Wireless base stations (access points) are wired to an Ethernet network and transmit a radio frequency over an area  performance.

SPEEDLAN 10 offers multi-point network capability. Each wireless network link may be managed and its software updated over the Internet. SPEEDLAN 10 is plug and play when implemented with factory settings as a self learning, transparent, MAC layer wireless bridge, but may also be configured as an IP router A router that is set up to route IP packets. See router and IP. . SPEEDLAN 10 combines advanced bridge and IP router functionality eliminating the need for an additional remote router in multi-point wireless networks.
