SPECTRUM TO SUPPLY CDPD BASE STATION DSP PRODUCTS TO TELEDYNE FOR SALE TO STEINBRECHER - EQUIPMENT DESTINED FOR MCCAW AND PACTEL

 BURNABY, British Columbia, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectrum Signal Processing, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: SSPIF) today announced that it has received an order from Teledyne, Inc. (NYSE: TDY) of Los Angeles, for digital signal processing (DSP) boards to be used in Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) base stations. Teledyne is a subcontractor to Steinbrecher, of Burlington, Mass., who has been selected to supply mobile data stations and controllers to McCaw Cellular Communications and PacTel for field trails.
 CDPD is a wireless communications technology that upgrades existing analog cellular equipment to digital capability. Cellular providers will now be able to offer packet-switched services that will provide high-speed transmission of data to and from mobile devices such as laptop computers, fax machines and personal digital assistants (PDA's).
 "We have been working with Spectrum during our development phase and have turned to them for their DSP expertise," said a senior official at Steinbrecher. "We are confident that our field trials will go well and expect substantial follow-on business."
