Orchards and fields were transformed into modern suburbia as 700,000 people from all over the nation flocked to the Valley. They prospered as factory workers, engineers, carpenters, barbers, merchants and schoolteachers. They flourished in the California sun as their modest bungalows soared in value and thousands of newcomers poured into their communities. It was boom time in the Valley.
