SPECIAL OLYMPICS VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT.

NEWHALL -- Those who have done it say they received far more than they gave.

That's the message volunteers have spread after helping with the annual Spirit Games sponsored by Special Olympics Special Olympics

International sports program for people with intellectual disability. It provides year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type summer and winter sports for participants.
 Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672.  for more than 1,000 developmentally disabled athletes.

Nevertheless, the organization is 350 volunteers short of the 550 or so needed to coordinate the May19 games in Newhall.

Special Olympics planners put out a plea this week for help. Prospective volunteers, with four hours to donate that day, are asked to call (661) 253-2121 by Friday.

Disabled athletes come from throughout Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  each year to compete in basketball, bocce, swimming, tennis and track and field. The Special Olympics will take place at Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:

, Placerita Junior High, the Newhall Boys & Girls Club Girls Club is a 2002 American television series created by David E. Kelley, who was also it's producer and executive producer. Only two out of a total of thirteen episodes created were broadcast on Fox Television in the United States and Global Television in Canada. , the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center and Newhall Park.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome. Families, groups, sports teams and church organizations are encouraged to sign up.
