SPECIAL OLYMPICS COMPETITION SET.

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley Special Olympics will host its 25th annual High Desert Classic area games on May 31 at Antelope Valley College, 3041 W. Ave. K.

The event culminates the year-round sports training programs for mentally handicapped youths and adults in the Antelope Valley. It draws more than 800 competitors from Santa Barbara to San Diego.

The daylong competition includes track and field, tennis, boccie, swimming, gymnastics gymnastics /gym·nas·tics/ (jim-nas´tiks) systematic muscular exercise.
Swedish gymnastics  a system following a rigid pattern of movement, utilizing little equipment and stressing correct body posture.
, bowling and basketball. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m. in Marauder Stadium with the parade of athletes led by a Junior ROTC ROTC - Reserve Officer Training Corps
ROTC - Record of Telephone Conversation
ROTC - Relics of the Chozo (Super Metroid music mix)
ROTC - Return on Total Capital
 color guard and the Tehachapi Mountain Pipes and Drums, the lighting of the Olympic torch and a pigeon release.

Track and field, tennis, boccie and basketball competitions will be held at Antelope Valley College; swimming will be held at Eastside Pool; gymnastics at Desert Christian Gymnastics Center in Lancaster; and bowling at Brunswick-Sands Bowl.

Lunch will be provided by the Italian Catholic Federation of Sacred Heart Church. The bulk of volunteers are coming from the Lancaster High Junior ROTC, Antelope Valley College volunteers, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints youth groups, State Farm Insurance and Boeing employees.
