SPECIAL BENEFIT CONCERT, NEW ALBUMS PART OF BUSY SCHEDULE FOR CARLOS SANTANA

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Following his historic joint concert tour with Bob Dylan (which ends with a performance at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, Calif., on Oct. 9), Carlos Santana will appear in an additional exclusive performance with his band. It will be at a benefit concert at New York's Madison Square Garden on Oct. 22, in support of the movement for recognition of Native Americans by the United Nations.
For the acclaimed guitarist, who first brought his soulful, Latin sizzle and distinctive style to rock 'n roll in the '60s, the benefit concert marks the culmination of a busy year. Among the highlights for 1993, Santana received a BAMMIE award as "Musician of the Year."
Also in October, Polydor is planning a worldwide release of "Sacred Fire -- Santana in Mexico" (an 85-minute video) and "Sacred Fire -- Santana in South America (a compact disc). Both will feature live performances from Santana's South American tour. The compact disc will contain 13 songs that span Santana's entire career, including some of his biggest hits as well as previously unrecorded material. Both the compact disc and video will offer a unique opportunity for fans to experience the excitement and spirit of his live concerts.
In 1992, Santana formed a new record label, Guts and Grace, and will release two albums under that label in coming months. The label's debut album is "Live Forever," a collection of live performances from some of the classic figures in contemporary music history. To be distributed by PolyGram, the album contains never-before-released performances by Jimi Hendrix, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Coltrane.
Also to be released on the Guts and Grace label will be a brothers album, a guitar-based family-oriented album that features both Carlos and his brother Jorge, as well as the recording debut of Carlos' nephew, Carlos Hernandez.
In addition, of special interest to long-time Santana fans, CBS/Sony will be releasing a box set from the Santana catalog sometime in 1994.
