Quartz Hill High School Quartz Hill High School is a public, co-educational high school located in Lancaster, California. The contest is an educational tool and a mechanism for high school students to compete for college scholarships. Contestants can potentially earn up to $13,000 in scholarships, if they win every level of the contest. To enter the contest, a student must prepare and present a four- to six-minute speech on the American free enterprise system. The local contest is supported by the National Management Association's Lockheed Martin Leadership Association (Chapter 525) and the Boeing Antelope Valley Chapter (Chapter 705). The contest is also supported by the Toastmasters International organization, which provides volunteers to coach the students in preparation for the contest. Toastmasters International is a communication and leadership organization that is active throughout the world in helping people gain communication skills. The scholarships were $300 for first place, $200 for second place, $100 for third place and $25 for the three runners-up. Contestants included Bailey, Stoller, O'Neal and Quartz Hill juniors Noelle Blair, Jessy Gonzalez and Jacqueline Martin. The local contest was held March 1 at the Antelope Valley Union High School District's Regional Occupational Program facility.
