SPEAKERS OVERFLOW AHMANSON RANCH HEARING.

Byline: Cecilia Chan Staff Writer

Deluged with speakers at Wednesday's public hearing on Ahmanson Ranch, a county committee plans to meet again next week to hear all of the comments.

The Environmental Report Review Committee next Wednesday will hear testimony from 20 more speakers who had signed up, as well as rebuttal rebuttal n. evidence introduced to counter, disprove or contradict the opposition's evidence or a presumption, or responsive legal argument.  from the developer, before deciding whether to accept any additional comments.

Officially the comment period on the draft supplemental environmental impact report closed Wednesday.

``We intend to build this project,'' said attorney Steve Weston Steve Weston (1940 - May 12, 1985) was a Canadian television and theatre actor. He is best known to Canadian audiences from his stint as the husband in the sitcom The Trouble With Tracy, and as a series regular on the sketch comedy series Bizarre. , who represents Washington Mutual “WaMu” redirects here. A group calling itself Rally To Save Ahmanson Ranch wants Washington Mutual to sell the land rather than develop a new community there.

The project had its supporters Wednesday, such as the Ventura County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce. But most of about 40 speakers opposed the project that they said will cause water, air and traffic problems.

Biologist Dan Holland, an expert on the red-legged frog, called the environmental report erroneous, inadequate and a misrepresentation misrepresentation

``This report ignores that the project will eliminate legally designated habitat for the frog,'' he said.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky also opposed the development in a faxed statement.

Although the project is proposed mainly in Ventura County, all access routes will be in Los Angeles city and county territory.

Although an environmental impact report was approved in 1992, the committee is reviewing a supplemental one to account for changes since then - namely the discovery on the site of protected species: the California red-legged frog The California Red-legged frog (Rana aurora ) is a sub-species of frog within the family Ranidae also known as the "true frogs".
