Max Scott led the Spartans with four goals, all in the first quarter. Devon Borisoff added three goals to help LaCanada take a 10-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

With reserves taking over after the first quarter, La Canada (21-7) led 16-2 at halftime.

``The kids are playing well,'' Spartans coach Larry Naeve said.

``It's fun to watch them when they get going. This was a great chance to get everyone in there and see how they respond at this level. For the JV and freshmen players, this is their first time at the championship level.''

Among the young players who got a chance to shine was sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Roszkos, who blocked 13shots, including a penalty shot.

 made six saves in the first half. The Conquerors became the sixth consecutive team dating to last season to surrender at least a dozen goals in a postseason game against La Canada.

Harvard-Westlake 7, Esperanza 5: Jeffrey Schwimer scored five goals and had three steals to lead host Harvard-Westlake of Studio City past visiting Esperanza of Anaheim in the Div. I quarterfinals.

Goalkeeper Brian Pingree made 13 saves and added a steal for the fourth- seeded Wolverines (26-4).
