SPANISH CLASS TO FEATURE FOOD, TRIPS FIVE-DAY PROGRAM TEACHES LANGUAGE, FOODS, CUSTOMS.Byline: Daily News College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation. will once again offer its popular, five-day Spanish immersion program this summer for those who don't have the time to take a semester-long course. The program is designed for anyone interested in Spanish language Spanish language, member of the Romance group of the Italic subfamily of the Indo-European family of languages (see Romance languages). The official language of Spain and 19 Latin American nations, Spanish is spoken as a first language by about 330 million persons and culture, and is open to those just learning Spanish as well as those who have been speaking the language for some time. The immersion format provides students with the opportunity to practice the language and to learn about different cultures in a conference-like atmosphere that includes numerous workshops and activities. This year, the program has been redesigned to include more opportunities to practice language skills and to learn about history, foods and customs. Field trips to a wide variety of cultural activities will create an enjoyable learning atmosphere. The course will be offered Aug. 6-10, with core classes of the institute offered from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and additional cultural courses held from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m., followed by classes specifically for teachers and medical professionals from 4 to 6:40 p.m. Students have the ability to earn up to 3.25 units of college credits during the week.
