Don't talk family budget to Valerie Tucker. She wrote the book.

Tucker has become an expert in buying name-brand children's clothes for less than retail, finding just the right Christmas presents on sale and even decorating her home without hitting the $100 mark.

``We've found toys, kids' clothes. We even found Christmas presents - sweaters and shirts with the tags still on,'' Tucker said one recent morning while working her way through a rack of $3.99 sweaters.

``We find a little of everything.''

The shop, which recently moved to larger quarters at 26869 Bouquet Canyon Road, sells items donated to Goodwill stations around the region. ``I bought them before I knew what they were,'' she said.

Store manager Hy Goldfarb said there are some regulars at the Goodwill store who eye the glassware and other items in search of valuables.

``We had one man, (he) came in and bought a money clip A money clip is a device typically used to store cash and/or credit cards in a very compact fashion for those who do not wish to carry a wallet. Metal Money Clip  for $1.99,'' Goldfarb said. ``He came back one day and told us it was gold!''

For Goldfarb, the Goodwill clientele is family. Frequent shoppers bring treats to share; they know one another by name.

``It's a fun store,'' he said. ``People come in and talk while they're looking. We talk for hours.''
