SOUTHWEST AIRLINES THROWS HUGE VALENTINE'S DAY BASH; DEDICATES NEW AIRCRAFT TO 'HEROES OF THE HEART'

DALLAS, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In typical "LUV" airline fashion, Southwest Airlines kicked off Valentine's early today with a huge party attended by over 1,000 employees and special customers.
At the party, the employees of Southwest dedicated a new Boeing 737- 300 aircraft named "Heroes of the Heart" to its 81 Station Administrative Coordinators -- a group dedicated to keeping Southwest running smoothly at each airport.
"We thought it appropriate that the 'LUV' airline honor its 'Heroes of the Heart' with a giant Valentine's Day party," said Wenden Hildebrandt, co-chairperson of the committee responsible for the program.
The new aircraft is painted with a specially designed "Heroes of the Heart" logo, which was applied by Boeing before delivery of the new aircraft yesterday.
The award was the brain child of a number of Southwest's culture Committee members, a committee formed to foster and maintain the unique culture for which Southwest is known.
"The new award is a reflection of the family feeling at Southwest," said Colleen Barrett, Southwest's executive vice president-customers. "This award will recognize those employees who have become unsung heroes for their behind-the-scenes dedication."
Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) is the first and only major airline to capture the industry's "Triple Crown" for its 1992 performance, based on statistics published in Department of Transportation (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Reports. The "Triple Crown" consists of the best ontime performance, best baggage handling record, and fewest customer complaints of all major carriers.

Southwest operates more than 1,300 flights a day with an all-jet fleet of 142 Boeing 737s.
