SOUTHLAND'S LATEST STORM A GENTLE ONE; FORECASTERS OPTIMISTIC THAT WEEK WILL BE SUNNY.

Byline: Daily News Staff and Wire Services

A cold storm with no El Nino connection for a change spritzed the Los Angeles region with light rain Sunday - a day after a storm related to the global weather phenomenon drenched drench

Forecasters say there is a slight chance of rain this morning but that they expect the rest of the day and the week, for that matter, to be mostly sunny.

Sunday's storm sprinkled about 0.11 inch of rain on the Los Angeles Civic Center and about 0.05 inch on Woodland Hills, the National Weather Service reported.

It was a mild one in comparison to Saturday's El Nino-related doozy doo·zy or doo·zie

The El Nino-related downpour flooded streets, caused power outages and drove hundreds of Orange County residents from their homes. That storm also had hampered efforts by rescue workers to find a 40-year-old Palmdale woman who became lost while hiking in the Angeles National Forest The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  on Friday.

Rescue volunteers discovered the body of Karen Tellez on Sunday morning after the woman had apparently died of exposure, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department This article is about the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, not to be confused with the smaller Los Angeles County Police

Elsewhere in the county, law enforcement officials kept busy Sunday responding to accidents caused by rain-slick roadways.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, meanwhile, issued the following tips for people cleaning up from flood damage:

. Water can damage the motors in electrical appliances such as furnaces and washing machines.

When using a ``wet-dry'' vacuum cleaner, be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions to avoid electric shock.

Have natural-gas appliances inspected and cleaned to avoid explosions and fires.

Throw out or steam-clean and thoroughly dry water-damaged furnishings such as carpets, drapes and mattresses. Bacteria, fungi and dust mites can grow on wet surfaces.

Keep children away from buckets with even small amounts of liquid. Since 1984, more than 200 infants and toddlers have drowned in 5-gallon buckets.

Gas control valves, circuit breakers and fuses that have been underwater pose explosion and fire hazards and should be replaced.
